Tupada XINGapore 2006 (exhibition)
16 November till 15 December 2006
Venue: Warong M Nasir
69 Killiney Road (off Orchard Road)

Tupada means ‘cockfight’ in Tagalog. It also refers to
a performance art event in the Philippines, first
presented in 2002, and most recently presented as TAMA
’06 (Tupada Action and Media Art). This same year,
Tupada extended into Tupada Xing, “a coined pedestrian
acronym [playing out] Tupada Crossing, with emphasis
on the letter "X" that carries with it multilayered
meanings: cross, action (aXn), extreme, export,
exchange, express, cross-over, restricted, breaking
away. The essence of Tupada's International Tour for
the year 2006 is encapsulated in the symbol X…For
Tupada, the year 2006 is a year for breaking borders,
crossing boundaries, meaningful and creative exchange
and expression, and a conscious breaking away from set
conventions”.
As part of this programme, four of the Tupada core
members – Ronaldo Ruiz, Thom Daquoiag, Maki Calillung
and Mannet Villariba – crossed over to Singapore
(XINGapore) from 21 October till 27 October. The
performance art event was presented on 26 October at

exhibition were created during their stay here.
